Item Effect of nutrition on leaf nutrient concentration in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq)(1983-12) Achuthan Nair, M.; Sreedharan, C.A field study on the effect of graded levels of N, P, K, Ca and Mg on the leaf tissue concentration in oil palm was conducted at the plantations of the Oil Palm (India) Ltd. at Bharathipuram (Kerala) during 1978 and 1979. The study revealed that nitrogen fertilisation increased leaf concentration of all the elements (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) under trial and reduced the chlorine concentration. It was observed that there was a two way antagonism between the leaf concentration of K and Ca+Mg. Similarly, an antagonism of chlorine on the uptake of potassium was also observed in the present study.Item Microbial Profiles of Arecanut Soils Under Mixed Cropping with Special Reference to Arecanut Yellow Leaf(2007-02) Rawther, T.S.S.; Abraham, K.J.; Achuthan Nair, M.; Jayasankar, N.P.A mixed cropping experiment was started in 1975 in the yellow leaf diseased region of Palode with cow pea, NB 21 and guinea grass crop mixed with arecanut palms. The nitrogen fixing Azotobacter and Beijerinckia and phosphate solubilising microflora were enumerated in the arecanut soils during the years 1976, 1977 and 1978. The yield and disease status of the arecanut palms under mixed cropping were also recorded for the three years starting from 1976-78. The influenc of crop mixing in comparison with the control arecanut palms (palms without any crop mixing) has been discussed with emphasis on yellow leaf diseaseItem Oil Palm Nutrition(2007-02) Achuthan Nair, M.; Sreedharan, C.The results of fertiliser experiments conducted in the major oil palm growing countries of the world are reviewed here,. The review mainly deals with the effect of major nutrients like N, P, K, Ca and Mg on the growth, yield and tissue concentration of oil palm.Item Seasonal Variation in Nutrient Concentrations of Foliar Tissues of Oil Palm(1983-06) Achuthan Nair, M.; Sreedharan, C.To study the seasonal changes in the nutrient concentration in leaf tissue of oil palm, an investigation was undertaken on six year old palms at the plantations of the Oil Palm India Ltd, Kerala, for two years from 1978. The design of the experiment was 33 x 22 confounded split plot, testing three levels each of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium and two levels each of calcium and magnesium. There was a reduction in nitrogen concentration in foliar -tissues during summer months and increase during rainy season. But a reverse trend was noticed in phosphorus, potassium and calcium concentrations and magnesium concentration in leaf did not show any definite pattern.
