Item In Vitro Screening of Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum L.) for Tolerance to Phytophthora Capsici(1996) Shylaja, M.R.; Sreekandan Nair, G.; Nazeem, P.A.; Mallika, V.K.; James MathewIn vnro screening of black pepper (Pipernigruml.) for tolerance to Phytophthbra capsiciwas carried out using concentrated culture filtrate (CCF) of P. capsici and the results indicated that CCF induced quick electrolyte leakage from callus cells was similar to that from leaf tissues of Panniyur-1, Karimunda, Kalluvally, Cheriakani kkadan and Balankotta. The calll after screening were successfully regenerated and the elongated shoots rooted and planted out. This technique might senre as one of the approaches in identification of tolerancelresistance to P. capsici.Item Reaction of exotic cultivars of coconut (COCOS NUCIFERA L.) to root (wilt) disease of Kerala(2007) Mathai, G.; Balakrishnan, B.; James MathewThe degree of resistance/tolerance of ten exotic and geographically distinct cultivars of coconut to root (wilt) disease of unknown etiology was studied at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, KuMarakom, Kerala. All the exotic cultivars tested were found Susceptible to the disease with varying degrees of intensity. However, the coconut culrivar San Ramon recorded significantly lower disease incidence followed by Guam, St. Vincent and Kenya. The infection of leaf rot incited by Bipolaris halodes (Drechsler) Shoem. was also low in these cultivars.
