Item Abnormalities in Arecanut(1956) Murthy, K.N.; Bavappa, K.V.A.Item Abnormalities in arecanut(1959) Murthy, K.N.; Bavappa, K.V.A.Item Altitude and areca cultivation(2007-02-08) Pillai, R.S.N.; Murthy, K.N.Item Anthesis and anther dehiscence of cashew flower(2007-02-08) Mohan, K.V.J.; Kumaran, P.M.; Murthy, K.N.; Nayar, N.M.Round the clock observations on anthesis were made for five consecutive days in three periods of flowering viz., early December, mid-February, and late April. The peak period of anthesis of male flower was around 6 b and the same for bisexual flower was around 11 h. The time taken for anther to dehisce with respect to flowers opened at different hours starting from 6 h was recorded. The time required for dehiscence reduced linearly as the day advanced.Item Better establishment with air layers in cashew (Anacardium occidental L.)(2007-02-08) Nagabhushanam, S.; Murthy, K.N.Item Botany(2007-02-08) Murthy, K.N.; Pillai, R.S.N.Item Breeding in Arecanut(1960) Murthy, K.N.; Bavappa, K.V.A.Item Bulk-pollination for increased fruit-set in arecanut(2007-02-08) Pillai, R.S.N.; Murthy, K.N.Item Collection and conservation of Piper nigrum and related species from Karnataka forests(2007-02-08) Rahiman, B.A.; Nair, M.K.; Murthy, K.N.Item Correlation studies in arecanut (Areca catechu L.)(2007-02-08) Yadava, R.B.R.; Vijayakumar, K.; Murthy, K.N.The association existing between yield and its different attributes In a Vittal local variety of arecanut palm has been studied. The remit* indicate that yield par palm Is positively associated with the number of nut sand negatively with height of the palm, Thus, the number «£snt» per pahs lias Important character for the success of selection.Item Distribution, morphology and ecology of Piper species in Karnataka, India(2007-02-08) Rahiman, B.A.; Murthy, K.N.; Nair, M.K.; Nayar, N.M.Collections of the genus Piper occurring widely in the forests of Karnataka, India were made. These consisted of eight species, P. nigrum Linn., P. longum Linn.,P. attenuatum Buch--Ham., P. galeatum C. DC, P. trichostachyon C. DC, P. argyrophyllum Miq., P. hymenophyllum Miq., and P. brachystachyum Wall. The various species showed considerable variation in distribution habitat preference, ecology, and morphology. All these Piper species were unisexual and dioecious, though the cultivated varieties of P. nigrum are bisexual. The two morphologically similar taxa, P. galeatum and P. trichostachyon, showed adjacent distiibution. The genus showed senescence in distribution.Item Diurnal rhythm in dry matter accumulation and carbohydrate contents in the leaves of arecanut palm (Areca catechu L.)(2007-02-08) Yadava, R.B.R.; Bavappa, K.V.A.; Murthy, K.N.Effects of diurnal rhythm in dry matter, water content and carbohydrate fractions in the leaves of arecanut {Areca catechu L.) were investigated. Dry matter accumulation was observed more during the day time and lesser amount in the night period. An inverse relationship between dry matter production and water content was observed. Regarding the carbohydrate synthesis, all fractions of sugars were found to be affected considerably. In general, the least amount of carbohydrate was obtained at sun rise and greatest at sun set.Item Diurnal rhythm in dry matter accumulation and carbohydrate contents in the leaves of arecanut palm (Areca catechu L.)(1972) Yadava, R.B.R.; Bavappa, K.V.A.; Murthy, K.N.Effects of diurnal rhythm in dry matter, water content and carbohydrate fractions in the leaves of arecanut (Areca catechu L.) were investigated. Dry matter accumulation was observed more during the day time and lesser amount in the night period. An inverse relationship between dry matter production and water content was observed. Palms(1974-10) Yadava, R.B.R.; Murthy, K.N.; Pillai, R.S.N.Item Evaluation of interrelationship between cation exchange capacity of leaf and root in arecanut, Areca catechu L.(2007-02) Mohapatra, A.R.; Pillai, S.S.; Bhat, N.T.; Murthy, K.N.Item A field study on propagation of cashew (Anacardium occidentale) by air layering(2007-02) Nagabhushanam, S.; Murthy, K.N.Item Floral and pollination biology of the betel nut palm Areca catechu L.(2007-02) Murthy, K.N.The literature on flowering, pollination, anthesis, and fruit set of the betel nut palm Areca catechu L. is reviewed. The palm flowers after 3-7 years and produces about 3-4 spadices in an year. It is monoecious with a spadix containing about 0-644 female flowers and 15,000-48,000 male flowers. The palm is generally cross-fertilized. Flowers open generally in the mornings, male flowers opening at 6.00-10.00 AM and female flowers opening at 2.00-10.00 AM.Item Flowering behaviour and correlation studies in cashew(2007-02-08) Murthy, K.N.; Vijayakumar, K.; Pillai, R.S.N.; Kumaran, P.M.Item Growth Characters and Mineral Nutrient Composition of Arecanut Seedlings as Related to their Cation Exchange Capacity(1973) Mohapatra, A.R.; Pillai, S.S.; Bhat, N.T.; Murthy, K.N.Root cation exchange capacity of some Areca cultivars at seedling stage was measured and its relationship with the morphological characters of plant and nutrier. composition of leaf as well as rootwas evaluated. High CEC encouraged more concentration of phosphorus in plant tissue. The growth characters of seedlings were not significantly related to the root CEC. Although the ratio of monovalent to divalent ions showed certain trend with root CEC which was in accordance with th Donnans principle. the CEC was not related to the cation composition of leaf. Thus, the applicability cf CEC cf Areca roots as one of tbe indices for the sdection of seedlings in the nursery appear, to be unreliable.Item Growth characters and mineral nutrient composition of arecanut seedlings as related to their cation exchange capacity(2007) Mohapatra, A.R.; Pillai, S.S.; Bhat, N.T.; Murthy, K.N.Root cation exchange capacity of some Areca cuhivars at seedling stage was measured and its relationship with the morphological characters of plant and nutrient composition of leaf as well as root was evaluated.
