Association of dipteran maggots in rhizome rot of ginger
    (2007-02-08) Prem Kumar, T.; Sarma, Y.R.; Gautam, S.S.S.
A constant association of two dipteran maggots, Eumerus sp. and Mimegralla sp. was noticed with Pythium infected rhizomes and occasionally with the bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) affected rhizomes also. Positive Pythium isolations were obtained in 1.02% of maggots of Mimegralla sp. collected from the field. From infected rhizomes, 42% showed Pythium alone and 58% showed Pythium and maggots and never maggots alone. Both the species were capable of subterranean movement. A crude ginger extract had an attractant effect on the maggots.

Effect of Meloidogyne incognita population on black pepper
    (2007-02-08) Koshy, P.K.; Premachandran, D.; Sosamma, V.K.; Prem Kumar, T.
Meloidogyne incognita was found to be pathogenic to black pepper causing stunting and yellowing of the plants and reduction in root and shoot weights. Reduced growth of plants and intensity of galling was correlated with the increase in initial nematode population. An initial nematode inoculum level of 10 larvae per plant caused severe damage over a period of one year.

Effects of some antifeedants on the caterpillars of Pericallia ricini F. (Arctiidae, Lepidoptera) a pest of cacao
    (2007-02-08) Prem Kumar, T.
Triphenyl tin acetate, triphenyl tin chloride, and AC 24055 were tested on Periaillia ricini (or assessing rheir efficacy as antifeedants at five concentrations ranging from 0-0125% to 0-2%. Triphenyl tin acetate at 0-2% and 0-1% ami Q-2% triphenyl tin chloride were most effective in checking the leaf consumption by catetpiilars protecting the leaf and causing maximum mortality of caterpillars. The chemical AC 24055 was least effective for all the factors scudied.
