Item Control of germination and tube elongation in Theobroma cacao L. pollen(2007-02-08) Subramonian, N.; Balasimha, D.Item Cushion galls of cocoa in India(2007-02-08) Chandra Mohanan, R.; Subramonian, N.; Balasimha, D.During a survey of cocoa gardens in South India, cushion galls were observed in Trichur District (Kerala State). Based on symptomatology they were identified as fan gall and knob gall. The etiology of these galls are yet to be established. Attempts to transmit these disorders were unsuccessful. In a pod collected from a normal cushion of a fan gall affected tree, only 50 per cent of the beans were normal and healthy. The abnormal beans failed to germinate. Anatomical peculiarities of knob gall and biochemical basis of hyperauxinity in gall tissue were investigated.Item Effect of cycocel on seedlings of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.).(1984) Balasimha, D.; Subramonian, N.Item Leaf characteristics in cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) Accesssions(1985) Balasimha, D.; Subramonian, N.; Chenchu Subbaiah, C.Item Nitrate Reductase and Specific Leaf Weight of Cocoa and Light Profiles in Arecanut-Cocoa Mixed Cropping(2007-02) Balasimha, D.; Subramonian, N.The pattern of light penetration through arecanut canopy and its effect on specific leaf weight (SLW), chlorophyll content and nitrate reductase (NR) activity of cocoa in six different spacings of arecanut-cocoa mixed cropping was studied. The PAR was maximum under wider arecanut spacings. The cocoa leaf NR activity and SLW also were higher over the season in such spacings. The chlorophyll content however did not show any definite trend.Item Role of Phenolics in Auxin Induced Rhizogenesis & Isoperoxidases in Cacao {Theobroma cacao L.) Stem Cuttings(1983) Balasimha, D.; Subramonian, N.Effects of phenolic substances, o- and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (o- and p-HBA) were studied as synergists of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) in rooting of single node cuttings of cacao. There was marked enhancement in rhizogenesis by p-HBA + IBA combination. The total pcroxidase and isoperoxidase activities were higher before rooting started and this declined enormously with onset of rooting. In rooting cuttings, the peroxidase activity was higher in treated cuttings as compared to controls. During rhizogenesis the auxin protector activity was higher in rooted than in non-rooted cuttings. The results are discussed in view of the regulatory role of peroxidases and auxin protectors. and auxin-phenol synneigism during rhizogenesis.Item Variability In Pod And Bean Characters In Some Cacao Hybrids(1982) Subramonian, N.; Balasimha, D.Variability for pod weight number of beans per pod, weight of wet beans with and without pulp, weight of peeled wet and dried beans, TSS of the pulp and fat content of the beans of ten cacao hybrids were studied. Field pod value for the ten hybrids was investigated. Great variability for the characters exist between the hybrids and the date of harvest had significant effect on the characters studied.
