Carbohydrate metabolism in arecanut (Areca catechu L.) leaves affected by yellow leaf disease
    (2007-02-08) Yadava, R.B.R.; Radhakrishnan Nair, R.; Mathai, C.K.
The reducing, non-reducing, tota! sugars and starchcontents of yellow leaf desease affected and healthy tissues of arecanut {Areca catechu L.) were analysed at bimonthly intervals for a year The carbohydrate content in infected leaves remain higher than in healthy tissues. The trend or shift ip the metabolic activities by increasing accumulation of sugars in the disease-affected palms are discussed in the light of sink capacity and carbohydrate distribution.

    (2007-02-08) Yadava, R.B.R.; Vijayakumar, K.; Murthy, K.N.
The association existing between yield and its different attributes In a Vittal local variety of arecanut palm has been studied. The remit* indicate that yield par palm Is positively associated with the number of nut sand negatively with height of the palm, Thus, the number «£snt» per pahs lias Important character for the success of selection.

Diurnal rhythm in dry matter accumulation and carbohydrate contents in the leaves of arecanut palm (Areca catechu L.)
    (2007-02-08) Yadava, R.B.R.; Bavappa, K.V.A.; Murthy, K.N.
Effects of diurnal rhythm in dry matter, water content and carbohydrate fractions in the leaves of arecanut {Areca catechu L.) were investigated. Dry matter accumulation was observed more during the day time and lesser amount in the night period. An inverse relationship between dry matter production and water content was observed. Regarding the carbohydrate synthesis, all fractions of sugars were found to be affected considerably. In general, the least amount of carbohydrate was obtained at sun rise and greatest at sun set.

Effect of washing techniques on nutrient losses and preparation of samples in arecanut palm
    (2007-02-08) Vellaichamy, K.; Yadava, R.B.R.
The affect of washing or removal of surface contaminants, mineral losses and essentiality of with or without midribs were examined. Concentrations of N and P in the levels of arecanut palms were not affected markedly by the washing procedures whereas K content was affected due to leaching. However, washing is not advisable at the time of sample preparation. Leaf laminae without midribs indicated better index for the content of elements.

    (2007-02) Yadava, R.B.R.; Vellaichamy, K.; Mathai, C.K.
A programme of selection of leaves of arecanutpalm for routine nutrient analysis is described and 8th leaf for nitrogen, 2nd for phosphorus and potas. sium, 3rd for calcium and 5th for magnesium analysis and for composite analysis of the major nutrients, the 2nd leaf have been suggested,

Seasonal Changes In Carbohydrate Composition Of Cacao Pods Of Theobroma Cacao L.
    (1972) Yadava, R.B.R.; Somiah, M.P.; Vellaichamy, K.; Mathai, C.K.
Investigations on seasonal changes of carbohydrate contents of cacao pods (Theobroma cacao L.) were carried out at Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (Regional Station), Vittal during the year 1970-71, Seasonal fluctuations in reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, total sugars and starch of husk and beans are described. All the soluble sugars are found to be rich in husk than in beans whereas the content of alcohol insoluble solids (starch) was obtained more in beans than in husk. However, the carbohydrate constituents of cacao pods are very much variable in relation to different months.
