Abstract

The factors influencing the growth of the fungus, Ganoderma lucidum were studied in vitro. It was able to grow in a wide range of pH, from 2- 0 to 9- 0, the maximum growth was at pH 5-5. Among the various nitrogen sources studied, peptone supported the best growth. The fungus utilizes organic nitrogen only. Excellent growth was obtained when maltose was the carbon source. In general, the disaccharides supported good growth of the fungus. Formation of elongated sporophores was noticed in saw-dust-malt medium or saw-dust supplemented with Waksruans nicdium, Mercuric chloride, captan, difolatan and vitavax were lethal to the fungus.
