An analysis is provided of certain types of crop description and their uses. It is suggested that users of some forms of crop description could benefit if greater consistency of content could be achieved—particularly in dictionary entries, broadly-based articles and chapters, and forms closely related to these two. Ways of making these improvements without restricting authors' freedoms are discussed.en_US
