dc.description.abstractNatural occurrence of an entomopathogenic nematode, Heterorhabditis indicus (Poinar, Karunakar and David) from soil is reported for the first time from Kerala, India. Morphometrics of the nematode is reported. At 24±1°C the duration of life cycle was seven days on larva of Corcyra cephalonica Staint (Galleridae: Lepidoptera). The LC-50 for larva of C. cephalonica was 5.02 IJ/ larva at 24±1°C. There was a direct relationship existed between the number of nematodes applied and number invading the host. The maximum multiplication of 48,000 IJ / larva was recorded when C. cephalonica larva was inoculated was 5 IJ/larva. Grubs of Oryctes rhinoceros L. (Scarabaeidae: Coleoptera), Rhynchophorus ferrugnieus Fabr. (Curculionidae: Coleoptera) and Leucopholis coneophora Burm. (Scarabaeidae: Coleoptera) were recorded as hosts under laboratory condition.en_US
